City Strategic Plan Goal 1 "An Inclusive Community of Self-sufficient Residents"
|
In 2014, the City spent $130,000 for consultants to create a "Streets That Work" plan that was finished and adopted by Council in 2016 (click here for full plan). The plan's guidelines recommend road "designs that balance the use of Charlottesville’s streets so that walking, bicycling, transit and driving are all safe, appealing and convenient ways to travel through the city." All well and good, and indeed critical to creating a bike/ped friendly city -- but what makes streets work way better for everyone?? Off-road greenway paths in places where they can be built to take walkers and bicyclists off the roads!! |
In 2014 The Thomas Jefferson Planning Commission - Charlottesville Albemarle MPO also lists in its 2014 long range planning document, a multi-use trail connection in Greenbrier Park running between Hillsdale and the John Warner Parkway (See if able to do so on this picture --project B17 at right at the top of the Charlottesville diagram, and also in the US 29 Corridor diagram. Diagrams are from pg 13 of Appendix A of the long range plan). For the full plan click here. |
